Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the Simply Orthodox mobile application (“Simply Orthodox,” “the app,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects your information. By using the app you agree to the practices described here.

The short version: We collect only what the app needs to work — your account details and the content you create. We do not sell your personal information or use it for advertising. You can permanently delete your account and data at any time from inside the app.

1. Who we are

Simply Orthodox is operated by Demetrios Bean. You can reach us at support@simplyorthodox.app.

2. Information we collect

Account information. When you create an account you provide your email address, a password, and your name. You may optionally add a username, parish, diocese, and jurisdiction. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are stored in hashed form; we never see your plain-text password.

Content you create. This includes custom prayers you save, prayer requests you post to the community board, and app activity such as prayer streaks and prayers completed. Prayer requests that you choose to mark as public are visible to other users of the app.

AI assistant conversations. When you use the AI assistant, the messages you send are transmitted to our AI processing provider (Anthropic) to generate a response. Your saved chat history is stored only on your device, not on our servers. Your optional personalization answers (such as spiritual background or struggles) are stored only on your device and are sent with a request only if you enable sharing; you can turn this off at any time.

Camera and photos. If you use the prayer-scanning feature, images are processed on your device using Apple’s on-device text recognition to extract text. Images and scanned photos are not uploaded to us or to any third party.

Subscription information. If you purchase a subscription, the transaction is handled by Apple. We receive your subscription status (active or not) through our subscription provider, but we never receive your credit card number or full payment details.

Notifications. If you enable prayer reminders, they are scheduled locally on your device.

Technical data. Our service providers may process limited technical information (such as device type, app version, and anonymized identifiers) needed to deliver and secure the app and to manage subscriptions.

3. How we use your information

To create and maintain your account and sign you in.
To sync your prayers, prayer requests, and profile across your devices.
To provide app features you request, such as the community prayer board and the AI assistant.
To manage subscriptions and premium access.
To keep the app secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

4. Service providers we share data with

We use a small number of trusted providers to run the app. Each processes only the data needed for its function:

Supabase — hosts our database and handles account authentication and storage of your profile, custom prayers, and prayer requests.
Anthropic — processes AI assistant messages to generate responses.
Superwall — manages the subscription paywall and premium access.
Apple — processes subscription payments and delivers push/local notifications.

5. Data retention and deletion

We keep your account information for as long as your account exists. You can permanently delete your account and associated data at any time:

In the app, go to Profile → Account → Delete Account and confirm. This permanently removes your account, profile, custom prayers, and prayer requests. This action cannot be undone.

If you are unable to use the in-app option, email support@simplyorthodox.app from your account email address and we will delete your account. Locally stored data (such as AI chats and personalization) is removed when you delete the app from your device.

6. Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Access to your data is restricted by row-level security rules so that you can only read and modify your own records (public prayer requests are the exception, by design). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

7. Children’s privacy

Simply Orthodox is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to certain processing. You can exercise most of these directly in the app, or by contacting us at support@simplyorthodox.app.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes may also be communicated in the app.
